Want to lose weight? If the answer is yes, then get in line. Every single day, countless people from all over the globe are going through a very tough and personal battle against their own waistlines. It’s not easy to lose weight, if it was, the vast majority of the population would be walking around in fantastic shape. Sadly, obesity rates are now higher than ever before, and something needs to be done. More and more health officials and experts are therefore recommending the HCG diet. If you’ve heard about the HCG diet but are not exactly sure what it is, here are 5 things you should know before you consider starting the diet.
What is the HCG diet?
Very simply, the HCG diet is a specially designed diet plan whereby individuals receive HCG injections and follow a structured diet plan. The diet is split into three phases: a high calorie phase, a very low-calorie phase, and a maintenance phase. HCG has been found to speed up the metabolism and allow the body to function on very few calories, while preserving lean muscle and keeping hunger at bay.
Who created the diet?
The diet was created by a British Endocrinologist named Dr Albert T.W Simeons, back in the 1950s. Like most medical marvels, his discovery was by accident, as he was focussing on obesity and what it did to the body, rather than looking for a solution. He found however, that when obese individuals received injections of this hormone, their metabolisms sped up and they lost more weight than usual, without feeling tired and hungry on a very aggressive caloric deficit.
HCG is a hormone
Yes, you will receive hormone injections during this diet. Although there are also HCG drops available. HCG stands for Human Chorionic Gonadotropin and it is this hormone that is produced primarily by pregnant women. Males and females still make it, though not in as large a volume as pregnant women do. HCG can also be used to boost testosterone and treat fertility issues, which is why many doctors can prescribe it for a whole host of different reasons.
You will feel hungry in phase 2
Phase 2 is the toughest phase of the diet, as this calls for people to function on between 500 and 700 calories, depending on their size and gender. Needless to say, this is a very small amount of calories to function on, and hunger is therefore inevitable. The good news however, is that HCG does help to significantly alleviate hunger pains and cravings for junk, so although you’ll feel hungry, it won’t be unbearable like some other low-calorie diets out there.
It is safe
There are some people out there who claim that HCG diets are dangerous because they are “glorified starvation diets”. The truth however, is that HCG diets are actually incredibly healthy and beneficial and can provide countless health benefits to those that follow them. Many doctors out there don’t just okay these diets, they actually advocate them.
